Meet the Conservators
Friday 13 September & Saturday 14 September 2024 | 2pm - 4pm
FREE | Drop-In
Join the Herbert’s knowledgeable Conservators in action as they examine, clean and care for objects from the Museum, and Archive collections. How do they spot the difference between ‘damage’ and evidence showing what the object has been through, and choose how to clean, repair or mount it in a way that takes into account its history, past use, present & likely future display? How do the needs of a single object balance against available resources and the needs of the rest of the collection? How can you apply this kind of approach to your own treasured items?
Bring your questions and an open mind to this rare opportunity; please do not bring objects but if you have a query about caring for a particular item or collection, photographs may help.
