Home Collections Archaeology Prehistory Prehistory The collection comprises around 300 objects ranging from the Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic through to the Bronze and Iron Ages. Most of the prehistoric material has been found as stray finds or by field walking rather than from archaeological excavation. There is Iron Age settlement evidence from two sites in Coventry at Westwood and the Post Office sorting depot near Toll Bar traffic island. Both date to the 1st century BC and revealed a rare crucible, pottery in various forms and flint tools. The Post Office site also brought to light pot-boilers and a chariot lynch pin, the earliest evidence of a wheeled vehicle in Coventry. ‹› ArchaeologyArchaeology OverviewTudor and StuartMedievalAnglo SaxonsRomansPrehistoryArchivesCharter of Incorporation (Coventry Charter)Letter from Queen Anne (Anne Boleyn)Queen Elizabeth I letterNatural HistoryNatural History OverviewCustoms & ExciseRocks & MineralsBirds & MammalsShellsButterflies & MothsSocial and Industrial HistorySocial and Industrial History overviewGeorge Eliot collectionToys and GamesSilk Ribbon WeavingWatchesStevengraphsCostume and textilesVisual ArtsVisual Arts OverviewBritish Life and LandscapeCathedral tapestry studies by Graham SutherlandGodivaPeace and ReconciliationWatercoloursOld Grammar SchoolDonate an objectDepositing ArchaeologyOnline Catalogue
