Discover what it means to be a young photographer by crafting crazy cardboard cameras, exploring lenticular art and making decorative driftwood frames to take home.

Drop in | £2.50 per child, under 3's free | Aimed at ages 3+, but all are welcome

Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2023 is returning to the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum, an annual international wildlife photography competition from the Natural History Museum. Join us in celebrating this exhibition of remarkable photography that captures the beauty of our planet.

Discover what it means to be a young photographer by crafting crazy cardboard cameras, exploring lenticular art, and making decorative driftwood frames to take home for amazing wildlife photography.

There is lots for all the family to capture this October half term.

 

Daily Activities:     

Saturday 28, Monday 30 & Tuesday 31 October: Crazy Cardboard Cameras
Have fun making your own 3D crazy camera from coloured cardboard, spools, cardboard tubes, popsicle sticks, ribbon and glitter and other embellishments. You can also choose to style a 2D camera and illustrate with your own sliding reel to run through your camera. Take home and capture the fun moments. 

Wednesday 1 & Thursday 2 November: Lenticular Print Art
Young Photographers will be using Lenticular techniques to explore and play with printed images in a new way. Children will select two printed images from our touring Wildlife Photography of the Year exhibition and splice them into strips. They will then use techniques such as making accordion folds and interlacing paper to give an illusion of depth and movement.

Friday 3 & Saturday 4 November: Decorative Driftwood Frames
Fashion a nature inspired photo frame, using colourful yarn, jute, driftwood/bamboo, clothespins, glue and scissors and much more. Go outside and be inspired to photograph or illustrate your own wildlife photography, then frame it in your beautiful wooden art piece.

Taking part in our school holiday activities and visiting our exhibitions helps them to do the majority of the work needed to complete their award.
