Art Masterclasses: Autumn / Winter Programme

This Autumn/Winter, our Art Masterclass programme will be exploring nature and the changing seasons. Ticket price includes materials.

 

Art Masterclass: Cyanotype Nature Prints

Thu 2 Nov | 10.30am - 12.30pm & 2pm - 4pm | Herbert Art Gallery & Museum

Artist duo, Creative in Nature, will be introducing you to beautiful traditional printing processes of Cyanotype, Collagraph and Mono printing. In this workshop children will be guided to take inspiration by using natural forms to drive your expressive mark making.

Through experimentation produce, individual pieces on calico fabric and Lokta paper and follow the Cyanotype process of using exposure to UV light (sunlight)to make striking blue images.

For this workshop you do not need to have prior experience and all materials are provided.

Take home your beautiful nature creation and display.

Health and Safety: Please be aware that even though the processes we will be using for the workshop are at a low risk in regard to materials and chemicals used. We will be handling and using photographic chemicals, oil paints, acrylics and inks.
Please can we advise that you wear appropriate clothing for the event and also please let us know if you have any allergies that we should be aware of in regard to the use of such materials.
We will be providing aprons, latex and non-latex gloves for use if required. As part of the Cyanotype process, we will also be using UV (ultraviolet) lamps for exposures. The exposure area will be sperate from the main working areas to lessen the amount of contact time near the lamps.

Join us for this new and exciting festive art masterclass and learn techniques of weaving your own willow wreath and using foliage to make the most beautiful natural wreath this festive season. Let your creative spirit free while listening to holiday music and indulging in treats, whilst our experts guides you through the techniques used to create a tactile and fun Christmas decoration. Children will select from natural resources including fresh flowers, dried fruits, pinecones and foilage to create their masterpieces. They will then adorn with embellishments of beads, bells, baubles and bows. Take home to display your amazing masterpiece on your door, window or festive table this holiday season.

 

Art Masterclass: Christmas Rag Wreath

Join us for this new and exciting festive masterclass and learn how to make a beautiful rag wreath decoration.
This is the perfect project for recycling fabric into a bespoke door or wall hanging, that will last for years to come. Using luxurious strips of fabric including cotton, organza, shear, and satin, our learning team will guide you through the technique used to create a Christmas decoration which is tactile and fun.  
Children will be able to adorn their wreaths if they choose with embellishments such as beads, bells, baubles and bows, to add that extra sparkle or use nature for inspiration and add pinecones for a festive feel. Choose your colour theme, funky or traditional and add silver, gold or bronze tones to make your textile art shine for Christmas.  
**Christmas treat and a hot chocolate from the Café included too.

Taking part in our school holiday activities and visiting our exhibitions helps them to do the majority of the work needed to complete their award.
