Located in the heart of Coventry city centre, next to the historic Cathedral, the Herbert is the perfect place to learn more about the history of Coventry and immerse yourself in some art and culture.

From 1 April 2025 | Admission Prices:

From 1 April 2025, we’ll be introducing a minimal fee for entry, with Go CV+ cardholders and children continuing to enjoy free admission. Visitors will have the option of purchasing a day pass or a cost-effective annual pass to enjoy all the museum has to offer.

This change will help us to care for our collections, create world-class exhibitions, and ensure everyone can engage with art, culture, and history.

1. Why is charging being implemented at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum?
From 1 April 2025, we’ll be introducing a minimal entry fee to help secure the Herbert’s future. Like many organisations, we’re facing rising costs, and this change will allow us to continue caring for our incredible collections and providing a great experience for visitors.
We understand this is a big change, and it wasn’t a decision we made lightly. The new fee structure will offer great value, with options for single-day tickets or a cost-effective annual pass for unlimited return visits within our opening times.

2. When will the charging be introduced?
The new charge will start from 1 April 2025. Tickets for admission will be available to book soon—stay tuned for updates.


3. How can visitors purchase admission tickets?
You’ll be able to buy tickets:
Online: Through the Herbert’s website (coming soon—we’ll update you as soon as it’s live)
On-site: From the Herbert Box Office on the day of your visit. If you have a Go CV or Go CV+ card, don’t forget to bring it for verification.


4. Can annual pass holders book exhibition tickets online?
Yes, if you have an annual pass, you can book tickets for paid exhibitions through your online account.


5. Will children’s activities remain chargeable?
Yes, some activities—like half-term events and early years sessions—will still have a separate charge. However, children aged 0-15 get free entry to the museum.
For the best value, we recommend adults and guardians purchase an annual pass.


6. Will Coventry Archives still be free to visit?
Yes, Coventry Archives will remain free to visit, but you’ll need to book an appointment in advance. There is a dedicated entrance on Cathedral Square for archive visitors.


7. Will the shop remain free to visit?
Yes, the shop will remain free to visit, with access available via the Herbert Box Office.

 

8. Will the café be impacted?
The café, run by Baxters Baristas, will continue to operate as usual. You can visit the café independently of the museum.
 


Gallery & Museum Opening Times:

The opening times for the Gallery & Museum are:

Monday: CLOSED (Open for Bank Holiday Mondays only)
Tuesday - Saturday: 10.00am - 4.00pm
Sunday: 12.00pm - 4.00pm

(Closed: 23, 24, 25, 26, 30 December and 1 January)

Please Note: For everyone’s comfort and safety, we may carry out bag checks upon entry
 


Coventry Archives Opening Times:

Coventry archives remains free to visit by appointment.

For Coventry Archives please enter via the dedicated entrance on Cathedral Square.

The opening times for Coventry Archives (not including bank holidays) are:

Wednesday - Friday: 10.30am - 3.30pm (Reading Room & Research Room)
Alternate Saturdays: 10.30am - 3.30pm

Please note that Coventry Archives are currently running an appointment only system.

Appointments are required for both the Research Room and the Reading Room.

The opening times for Baxter Baristas are:

Monday - Friday: 8am to 4pm
Saturday: 9am to 4pm
Sunday: 10am to 4pm


Herbert Gift Shop Opening Times:

From Tuesday 1 April 2025, the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum Gift Shop will remaining free to visit.
For entry, please ask a member of staff at the Herbert Box Office.

The opening times for the Herbert shop are:

Sunday: 12pm - 4pm
