CCC awards funding to support Holiday Activities and Food Programme
28 July 2021
Culture Coventry has received over £13,000 funding from Coventry City Council to deliver additional activity over the summer holidays for children who receive benefits-related free school meals.
This is part of the DfE national Holiday Activities and Food Programme with funding to cover costs for materials, staffing and meals at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and Coventry Transport Museum.
At the Herbert children will have the chance to learn about the city’s history from Lady Godiva to present day with everything in-between. There will also be the chance to take part in Crafting Coventry’s History workshops.
Coventry Transport Museum will host a Summer of Play, featuring a wide range of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) workshops for children of all ages.
School holidays can be pressure points for families because of increased costs and reduced incomes, which can lead to a holiday experience gap. The programme aims for children who attend this provision to eat more healthily, be more active and take part in engaging and enriching activities.
Lisa Ford, Learning Manager at Culture Coventry said: “The fun and playful learning programme will provide a whole host of entertainment and creative activities teaching new skills throughout the summer holidays for children who are eligible.”
“We are so grateful for the funding and to be able to support eligible children with healthy meals and inspiring workshops alongside approximately 50 other holiday clubs across the city under the banner of Summer of Fun: 2021.”
Councillor Dr Kindy Sandhu cabinet member for education and skills said: “This is such an important scheme and it will help many families in our city who need a little extra support over the school holidays.
“Children will be able to get a healthy meal, but they will also be able to learn about their city’s heritage and culture at two brilliant venues, develop their skills and make friends. The scheme is really important, and I’m pleased that Culture Coventry is involved.”
