CASE exhibition excites and impresses

​Ninety works of art, ranging from watercolours to bronze sculptures have gone on display at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum as part of a brand new exhibition.

CASE: Coventry Art Societies Exhibition features pieces from four local societies – the Coventry & Warwickshire Society of Artists, Coventry Watercolour Society, Coventry Art Guild and Baginton Art Group.

The exhibition will run until May 19 and a Visitor Choice Prize will be added to awards already won.

Wallace F Brown was the winner of the Selection Panel’s Favourite Painting for his Southwold Boatyard watercolour.

Paul Chokran’s stunning mixed media piece, ‘Advertising in Delhi’ won the Chairman’s Favourite Painting prize, while Gordon Tully’s ‘The Long Walk’ in graphite was chosen as the Lord Mayor’s Favourite Painting.

Francis Ranford, Cultural and Creative Director at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, said: “There is a fantastic array of works on display. From paintings to watercolours, to bronze sculpture, the choice of subject matter and style is as individual as the artists themselves.  

CASE chairman, writer and artist Susan Moore added: “There was a real buzz on launch night and it was lovely to see so many people enjoying the work of wonderful local artists.

“We are grateful to the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and to everyone involved in making the exhibition possible.

“We also cannot wait to find out who has won the Visitor Choice Prize!”

Visitors can vote by filling in a form provided and posting it in a ballot box at the gallery.

Many of the pieces are for sale and are priced from £50 to £900.
