Herbert Art Gallery & Museum secures funding of £376,353 to lower its carbon footprint and improve environmental conditions

We are delighted to announce the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum has been successful in our bid to Arts Council England for a grant of £376,353 towards environmental improvements.

The funding will enable the implementation of energy and sustainability improvements to the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum through a major plant and controls upgrade.

Paul Breed, Chief Executive of Culture Coventry, said “We are delighted that we have been awarded a grant of £376,353 from Arts Council England towards environmental improvements at the Herbert.

“The total project cost will involve just over £450,000 worth of improvements and will not only transform the environmental control and management of the exhibition and gallery spaces, but also substantially reduce the carbon footprint of the Herbert and generate significant revenue savings.

“In addition to the financial and environmental benefits, there will also be considerable benefits to the partners we work with, along with our communities and the city as we build towards an exciting programme of events and exhibitions as part of UK City of Culture 2021.

“Artists and arts organisations will be confident that their works of art will be exhibited within some of the most technologically refined environmental conditions, so that Coventry will ultimately benefit from a wider range of partnerships and exhibitions, which will undoubtedly attract more national and international visitors to the city.

“We would like to extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Arts Council England for enabling this project to be delivered during such an important phase of arts development for both Culture Coventry and the whole of the city”

The project will commence later this year and work should be completed by late 2019.
