Toys and Games

This collection includes some wonderful 19th century dolls and a wide range of toys including popular favourites such as Lego, toy trains, Action Man and a space hopper.

The main doll collection comprises about 80 dolls, dating from around 1800 to 2000. The majority of the dolls are from the 1800s with porcelain or wax heads, many in good condition and with their original clothes.
Some of the highlights of the collection include two bisque dolls made by Armand Marseilles, one of the leading doll manufacturers of the late 1800s. There is a wax doll dressed in dyer's costume for the Godiva Procession, 1870 to 1900, and a three faced bisque headed doll from the 1880s.

The toys and games collection includes Victorian toys such as clay marbles and spinning tops as well as contemporary toys like a Buzz Lightyear action figure from 2000. These can be seen in the History Gallery as well as What's in Store.
